The Poetics of Otherness

In 2019 Eleanor curated the exhibition The Poetics of Otherness at The Pratt Institute in New York. This was part of the conference ‘Arts, Creativity and the Global Crisis’. Exhibiting artists: Margaret Ashman (UK), David Borrington (UK), Ellen Frank Inc (USA), Sarah Harley (UK), Eleanor Havsteen-Franklin (DK), Cecilia Mandrile (AR), Ben Okri (NG), Cornelia Parker (UK), Tomas Thøfner (DK) and Hiromi Tsuha (JP). Poet reading by: E.J McAdams (USA), Eléna Rivera (USA) and Scott Thurston (UK). Through poems, soundscapes, prints, sculptures and installations the works respond to the themes of the conference: exploring notions of loss, memory, dis/ability, displacement and ecological concerns. The works seek to highlight the complex issues on a personal level at a time of global environmental, social and political crisis.
